At A1 Hard Chrome, we specialise in providing superior hard chroming solutions tailored to meet the rigorous demands of the manufacturing and industrial sectors. With over 50 years of experience, we deliver exceptional durability, precision, and efficiency in every project.

What is Hard Chroming?

Hard Chrome plating is an electrolytic method of depositing Chrome for engineering applications, from a Chromic acid solution.

Deposits can be applied from 10um to 1,000um thickness for a wide range of applications. The thinner deposits being used to substantially increase the life of components in wear applications or corrosive environments, and the thicker deposits being used for salvage and repair of worn, damaged or mis-machined components.

Hard Chrome is classed as a “COLD” process, the operating temperature of 50 – 60°C ensures no detrimental effects to the physical or mechanical properties of the base materials. Hard Chrome can be deposited successfully and advantageously onto most metallic substrate materials.

Hard chrome plating is a process where a layer of chromium is electroplated onto a metal surface. This enhances the surface properties, offering significant benefits such as:

  • Increased Hardness: Hard chrome provides a tough, wear-resistant surface.

  • Enhanced Durability: Protects against corrosion, wear and abrasion, extending the lifespan of your equipment.

  • Low Friction: Reduces friction, improving the performance and efficiency of machinery.

  • Precision Finishing: Ensures a high-quality, smooth finish for critical components.

Our Hard Chroming Process

At A1 Hard Chrome, we utilise state-of-the-art equipment and techniques to ensure the highest quality results. Our process includes:

  1. Surface Preparation: Thorough cleaning and preparation of the base metal to ensure optimal adhesion.

  2. Electroplating: Applying a uniform layer of chromium using advanced electroplating methods.

  3. Quality Control: Rigorous inspection and testing to verify the integrity and quality of the plating.

Applications of Hard Chroming

Our hard chroming services are ideal for a wide range of industrial applications, including:

  • Hydraulic Cylinders: Enhancing the durability and performance of hydraulic components.

  • Pistons and Rods: Providing wear resistance and longevity for critical engine parts.

  • Rollers and Shafts: Improving the lifespan and efficiency of rotating equipment.

  • Moulds and Dies: Ensuring precision and durability for manufacturing tools.
